Brow Lift

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, sometimes called a forehead lift, raises eyebrows that may have begun to drop due to gravity and can also correct forehead creases, as well as frown lines between the eyebrows. If your brows are uneven or have lost their natural arch, these conditions can also often be corrected during a brow lift.

Dr. Combs has extensive experience with brow lift surgery, including the variety of techniques that can be used. During your consultation, he will spend time with you to answer your questions and make sure he fully understands what you want to achieve. He will examine you and take a full medical history to ensure you are a good candidate for a brow lift.

A brow lift can make you look significantly younger, but it only affects the face from the brows and forehead up. If you have signs of aging on the lower portion of the face, you might wish to have a face lift as well. Sometimes, it can be performed at the same time as your brow lift.

What to Expect from a Brow Lift

If you have uneven eyebrows or no longer have an eyebrow arch, additional incisions may be necessary. Most patients can use a technique which includes an incision at the temples, hidden by the hairline. Another technique uses a long incision across the forehead or from ear to ear, again hidden within the hairline. Dr. Combs will, of course, let you know what technique he expects to use during your surgery.

Most patients must be under general anesthesia for a brow lift, but you can go home a few hours after your surgery.

Brow Lift Recovery and Aftercare

Most patients miss about a week and a half of work after a brow lift. Exercise and sports activities can be resumed after about a month.

The final results of your brow lift will take some time to show, as the area will continue to “settle” over a period of months. This gradual process makes it less likely for others to notice that you have had a cosmetic procedure.

Pain, swelling, and bruising are inevitable for at least two weeks. Pain medication will be given, as well as antibiotics to prevent infection. You can wear makeup in about five days. Elevating your head while sleeping will reduce swelling.

Of course, if you have any questions as you heal, do not hesitate to call us. We will see you for follow-up examinations to monitor your healing.
