What is a Breast Lift?
Gravity takes a toll on a woman’s breasts as a result of aging, pregnancy, or weight loss. A breast lift (mastopexy) can restore the breasts to their youthful position and shape.
A breast lift will not increase the size of your breasts. If you would like your breasts to be larger, as well as lifted, you can have a breast augmentation and breast lift at the same time.
Dr. Combs will spend time with you during your consultation to answer your questions and make sure he fully understands what you want to achieve. He will examine you and take a full medical history to ensure that you are a good candidate for a breast lift. It is important to him to operate with the utmost integrity and transparency so that you know what you can reasonably expect from your breast lift.
What to Expect from a Breast Lift
Breast lift surgery is usually performed with the patient under general anesthesia. You can go home the same day after spending some time in post-op recovery.
To perform the breast lift, Dr. Combs makes incisions around the dark skin surrounding the nipples (the areolas). Sometimes, a vertical incision from the bottom of the areolas down to the crease of the breast is also necessary, as well as a horizontal incision along the breast crease. These additional incisions are done in cases of more severe breast sagging.
Excess skin is removed, and the breast tissue is lifted to a higher position on the chest and reshaped if necessary for a more pleasing result. If the areolas have stretched and lost their circular shape, they are reshaped, as well as lifted.
Breast Lift Recovery and Aftercare
Results can be seen immediately, but swelling and bruising will prevent you from seeing the final result until two to three weeks after surgery. Avoid lifting heavy objects and sleeping on your stomach as you heal.
You should be able to return to work within one to two weeks, and you can exercise again in about a month. If you have post-operative pain, you can take pain medication. You will be given a surgical bra to wear during the healing period, and you will see us for follow-up appointments so that we can carefully monitor your healing.
