What are Injectable Dermal Fillers?
Injectable dermal fillers are a non-surgical way to look younger. If you look closely at a younger person, you will notice that the skin is full and plump. As we age, we lose that volume, and wrinkles result. The skin begins to sag and even hollow in some areas. Dermal fillers restore that lost volume and youthful appearance.
We have extensive experience with administering dermal filler injections so that the result is natural-looking and not overdone. We offer the following fillers:
- Juvéderm® Voluma XC
- Restylane® Silk
Juvéderm® and Restylane® Silk are also used on younger patients for lip augmentation. We also offer Fat Grafting, a technique in which fat is removed from one part of the body and injected into the face and/or neck. Read more about Fat Grafting.
Note that Botox® and Dysport® are injectables that correct lines and wrinkles caused by muscle activity rather than lost volume. Sometimes, a combination of dermal fillers and Botox® or Dysport® can provide you with the best possible result. Read more about Botox® and Dysport®.
Facial fillers are administered using a fine needle, so the pain is minimal. We can apply a numbing cream before the injections, if you prefer, and the fillers include Lidocaine to ease discomfort.
Juvéderm® is made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is already present in the body. It smooths lines, wrinkles, and folds, particularly nasolabial folds (wrinkles from the nose to the mouth). It can also be used for lip augmentation, making the lips fuller.
Juvéderm®’s results last for six to nine months.
Juvéderm® Voluma XC
Also made of hyaluronic acid, Juvéderm® Voluma XC is slightly thicker than Juvéderm®, making it particularly good at adding fullness to the cheeks.
Voluma is longer lasting than most fillers – nine to 12 months or up to two years for some.
Voluma sometimes results in temporary, invisible lumps that must be massaged regularly until they resolve.
Restylane® is a hyaluronic acid filler that corrects nasolabial folds, marionette lines (wrinkles from the mouth to the chin), smile lines, and hollows under the eyes. It can also be used to restore lost volume on the neck.
Restylane® results last about six months. After a second treatment, some patients enjoy the results for as long as a year.
Restylane® Silk is a hyaluronic acid filler that is specifically for lip enhancement and to smooth fine lines around the mouth. Since it also makes the lips fuller, it is often used on younger patients who do not yet have mouth lines.
Restylane® Silk results last about six months.
Sculptra® is made from poly-L-lactic acid and is used to replace lost collagen to gradually and subtly correct nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles.
The results of Sculptra® can last more than two years.

No downtime is required after dermal filler injections. You may experience some minor pain, swelling, and bruising in the areas where the needle was inserted. These symptoms should resolve within a few days. If necessary, you can take Tylenol or Motrin to relieve any discomfort.
