Botox® and Dysport®

What is Botox® and Dysport®?

Botox® and Dysport® are cosmetic injectable neuromodulators that smooth facial and neck wrinkles caused by muscle contractions. They safely block the nerve signals that cause the contractions for a period of three to four months.

These injections are popular because the appointment takes little time, and you can go back to the office or meet someone for lunch right after. Within a few days, you will look more youthful and refreshed.

Botox® and Dysport® can improve:

  • Frown lines between the eyebrows that make you look angry or tired
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Forehead creases
  • Bands on the neck
  • Asymmetry on the face caused by a muscle contraction

Botox® and Dysport® injections are also used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and migraine headaches. Some people have concerns because these products are made of Botulinum toxin (type A), but in small doses, it is absolutely safe. In fact, Botulinum toxin has been used by physicians for many years to treat muscle spasms in children.

At Combs Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics, we have been thoroughly trained in the use of Botox® and Dysport®. This allows us to choose the correct injection sites and dosages for a natural look that will not impair your ability to make facial expressions.

What is the difference between Botox® and Dysport®? The products are similar with slight variations.

What to Expect from Botox® or Dysport® Injections

The needle used for Botox® and Dysport® is very small, so it only hurts a little.

It only takes a few minutes to administer the injections. We apply ice to the area for another few minutes before you are dismissed from our office. You can then go on with your day, although we recommend that you avoid strenuous activity until the day after your injections.

Botox®/Dysport® Recovery and Aftercare

You will begin to see the results of your injections in seven to ten days.

The injection sites may be tender, red, and slightly swollen for a day of two. Some patients who are sensitive to needles experience mild bruising for a few days that can be covered with makeup.

Do not massage the injection sites, and do not lie down for at least four hours after your injections. Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to call us.

The effects of your injections will begin to wear off in three to four months. Most people repeat the injections two to three times per year.
